That's a tough one in that house. The usual answer (the garage) is already being used. Taking over closet space is another common solution, but you don't have any of that, either. The back porch is a nice space, but it might get a tad nippy in the winter. But you are correct; you need a time and place for work.

Hang in there! I can take a picture of my house right now if it would make you feel better (and I am sure it would). Had the laundry down to 2 bins at X-mas, now its coming out the laundry room door. My children have taken over the family room (which is where I work) with their new xbox 360. Kitchen has dishes in sink (and I have 3 kids 7, 9 and 14 that can do them)!

Personally, I try to stop and clean 1 room. I never have the whole house clean. I am looking forward to comments here to see if anyone has the magical answer!

It's a little too regimented for me, but when I get to the point where I just don't know where to start or what to do, I always go back to her. I can see where it would be more helpful for a WAHM than a SAHM, too. Next year when both kids are in school I'm going to try harder to follow a system so that I can use my extra time for other things (like writing), and not feel chained to the dishwasher.

When you get a system set up, it really is freeing. Instead of thinking, "when did I last vacuum? Do I need to do that? What about the fridge? Do I have groceries for dinner?" you just think, "okay, roast for dinner. I don't vacuum till Thursday." It's much easier.

My goal this year is to reach all of my goals. :)B...
